258 - The "Saint's" Car Volvo P1800 (First Edition) LAST CHANCE TO BUY

£32.99

Renowned for being Corgi’s first licensed product, this popular model was created to tie in with the ‘Saint’ TV show featuring future James Bond, Roger Moore. The P.1800 model had been first issued by Corgi in 1961, as number 228. Originally available in either red, beige or salmon pink, it was deleted in 1965 to make way for this new version.

With white paintwork to match the car seen on TV, a detailed red interior, the iconic ‘Saint’ logo on the bonnet and a miniature Simon Templar at the wheel – the character Roger Moore played in the show – it was an instant success. Nearly 1,160,000 were sold before it was deleted from the range in 1970. Later versions differed with a red ‘Saint’ bonnet sticker.

Nice Model

Nice model but it’s a shame the models are not made in the UK

Hello Carlos,

Thank you for your review.

We do hear what you’re saying about the desire to have Corgi Toys manufactured in the UK as they were ‘back in the day. Unfortunately, the stark fact is that the cost to the consumer would likely be four or five times higher, making the entire Corgi Model Club project unviable. We make no secret of where Corgi Model Club models are made – by Corgi, using their far east manufacturing facilities, and it clearly says ‘made in China’ on the base of the models. However, they are of extremely high quality, arguably better that the originals, if only because manufacturing techniques have developed somewhat in the last 50+ years. The country of origin has zero to do with quality, more to do with economics.

With kind regards

Very good remodelling of an iconic car

A very nice piece of nostalgia. Remember getting this when it first came out. Even as a boy, I thought this was something special. Wished I had treated the original with a bit more care. This model is superb. Looking forward to any future TV/Film base models.
