271 - Ghia 5000 Mangusta with De Tomaso Chassis

As the 1960s morphed into the 1970s, Corgi continued to introduce innovative features, most notably on a selection of models featuring a removable chassis. The Italian Ghia 5000 Mangusta with a De Tomaso chassis was an ideal subject – Ghia famous for their streamlined bodies and De Tomaso for their engine and chassis combinations.

Launched into the Corgi range in 1969 with a stylish two-tone body, gold stripes on the bonnet and some beautifully detailed ‘magnesium’ style wheels, it certainly looked the part! In 1970, renumbered 203, it was revamped with Whizzwheels – no longer with a detachable chassis and in green paintwork – although the two-tone livery still appeared on the box illustration.

My favorite model!!

I looked for this model for a long time but the originals offered on Ebay were always too expensive for me. Now I was finally able to purchase the Mangusta in new condition. Thanks Corgi

One of my favourites as a kid.

I was so stoked when I saw the upcoming list of models and saw that this car was on the list. I still have my original and I have also bought a few to restore but to get a new one was great. I liked it so much I bought another from the Corgi Club so I have two. I also have recently acquired one with the Ghia casting in the base but licensing agreements can be tricky, as Corgi found out in the 60's that's why the new one and the firts run models don't have it.
