345 - MGC GT Competition Model

£35.99

The 3.0 litre MGC GT was a welcome addition to the Corgi range in early 1969, the car’s powerful six cylinder engine requiring a bonnet modification with a noticeable sporty ‘bulge’. Corgi also gave it a racy yellow livery* with a black bonnet and tailgate – the box depicting an illustration of a two-tone blue and white MGC GT (a scheme the model never came in).

Based on the tooling of the earlier Corgi MGB GT (Corgi 327), it retained that model’s miniature suitcase, folding seats and jewelled headlights. However, the new model’s sporting credentials were enhanced by a set of racing numbers you could optionally apply. Original examples are more scarce because by 1970 it had already been deleted, making way for a new Whizzwheels version, Corgi 378.

*Of additional note to collectors is a very scarce orange version of Corgi 345!
