406 - Land-Rover 109 WB

€42,95

The 109 WB acronym of this ‘Series I’ Land Rover represents the vehicle’s 109-inch long wheelbase – as opposed to the 88-inch standard wheelbase version. Introduced into the range in August 1957, Corgi 406 was their first ever Land Rover.

Corgi would go on to produce over 10 million Land Rovers in various guises over the years. Available in either yellow (with a black roof) or blue (with a white roof), neither option was given the rear canopy (known as a tilt) which became a noted feature of Corgi’s later Land Rover models.

However, slightly confusingly, the Corgi 406 that came with 1958’s Corgi Gift Set 2 (paired with a horse trailer) did feature a pressed metal tilt – a Corgi first. Corgi 406 came in either the earlier style blue box or the later yellow and blue design – both featuring the same illustration of a green Land Rover, which just happened to be the colour of the version in Gift Set 2!

406 Land- Rover 109 WB.

I've just opened my order it's excellent 👌 a first class model, and box. I'm very pleased to have it in my collection. Thanks Corgi.

Like original?

Not knowing the original I can only comment on this one. The finish is the usual excellent Corgi finish. Reference comparison to the original. I'm not certain about the plastic base (not metal) and the pressed on wheels. I don't like either of these adaptations. First one with no interior, a small surprise as corgi was the leader with those. Nice model otherwise.

Land Rover 109"wb.

A pretty good representation of Corgi's earliest Land Rover with flat spun wheels, the overall paint finish is excellent, however baseplate looks to be a more substantial tinplate affair especially around the axles, and is matte black as opposed to gloss black of the original. The later style box is also a very good copy. A nice addition to this ever growing collection.

Matt baseplate?

Very good - surprised to see a matt baseplate, should it be gloss black?
