276 - Oldsmobile Toronado

£35.99

The Oldsmobile Toronado, a luxurious American muscle car renowned for its V8-powered front wheel drive, was an irresistible subject for Corgi, who initially released it in 1967 as Corgi 264. This was only a year after the actual car was launched, Corgi keen to make inroads into the American market by building a collection that appealled to those on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 1968 Corgi updated the tooling to allow for the fitting of ‘Golden Jacks’ take-off wheels, giving it a new number, Corgi 276. Both versions featured ‘remote control swivelling’ jewelled headlights, which ‘popped up’ when a small thumb wheel beneath the base was turned. Utilising its tow-hook, Corgi 276 was also available as part of Gift Set 36, hitched to an accompanying trailer and speedboat.

Super!

Encore un modèle parfaitement reproduit, aussi bien la voiture que le packaging, avec le système « take-off Wheels » fonctionnel sans défaut. Identique à l’original, mais avec une belle couleur or!

Hello,

I played with this miniature, which I think was given to me for Christmas in 1969.
Thank you for offering this model again, as well as all the others.

All the best.

Some remarks

The paintwork is excellent and the golden jack wheels work a treat. Made more like fit in the box than the same scale as the majority, so it looks a bit on the small side. The headlights work only when you tilt the model backwards to lift them and the box doesn't show you, or mention, how to operate them a bit of an omission I think.
As a toy I would think a child could break the mechanism easily by forcing it. For me the fact that the headlights aren't painted same colour, makes it look a bit unfinished. Despite these criticisms a very nice model, worth having.

Another super replica from Corgi Model Club. Excellent paint finish, great casting with legible script on wings and bonnet area. "Take Off" wheels are wonderfully nostalgic along with retractable headlamps. Compares favourably with the original. Box is also very good especially with often missing header card.

A superb replica

Very nice reproduction of one of my favourite models from my childhood. I have two originals so when CMC added this version in gold I thought it would be a great addition. The accuracy of the casting and the gold paint are superb and the window box is a good copy of the original.
The pop up lights and golden jacks with take-off wheels also mimic the original although the quality of the jewels for the headlights is not as sparkling as the originals.
Very pleased with this one and a good addition to my collection of old and new Corgis.
