447 - Wall's Ice Cream Van on Ford Thames (with figures)

£45.99

Corgi 447, the first version of Corgi’s iconic Wall’s Ice Cream Van, was presented in a different box design to the later Corgi 474 and was notable for the two figures of an ice cream seller and a boy that accompanied it. Slots in the cardboard plinth that came in the box allowed the figures to be displayed next to the model to create a diorama. The figures were deleted from the later model for production cost reasons.

The question always asked about this model – and indeed, Corgi 474 – is why the steering wheel is on the left. This replicated the actual ice cream van, the left-hand drive position allowing the vehicle to be parked to the nearside (right), so that children could queue safely on the pavement for their Wall’s ice creams and ice lollies and not in the road!

What a charming model!

As a kid in Germany in the 60s I owned a lot of Corgi models but not this one. I guess it did not appeal that much to my father who bought the models I received as Christmas or birthday gifts. However, the model has so much nostalgic charme that I had to get it as soon as it was available from the CMC. The model is just perfect and I had fun applying the stickers. Thank you so much to all at CMC!

Just perfect, well made with great detail, just like the one that used to come down out street.

I'll Have A 99 With Strawberry Juice Please.

This is my 42nd CMC re-issue including the first issue Walls ice cream van and I haven't had a disappointment with any of the issues. Exceptional collection and just look forward to adding every month.
