333 - RAC International Rally B.M.C. Mini Cooper 'S'

£34.99

Based on a car driven by Tony Fall and Mike Wood in 1966’s RAC / SUN Rally, Corgi added a sump guard to their Mini Cooper casting and gave it an impressive six jewelled headlights. Unusually, it came in a Corgi 225 Austin Seven box with a ‘1966 RAC International Rally’ label stuck over the top. The lack of a dedicated box didn’t help off-the-shelf sales – that’s if shops even stocked Corgi 333 as it only appeared on order forms for eight months. By late 1967, the Corgi warehouse had a stock surplus resulting in it being included with the Carrimore Car Transporter as part of Gift Set 48.

Today it is one of the rarest of Corgi’s Mini Coopers. Both Morris and Austin-badged originals exist, some with shaped wheel hubs and others with the cast ‘louvre’ design. In January 1967, a thousand 333 models (presented in a plain white box) were given away as part of a Sun newspaper reader competition.

Great little mini

What a great little model and so accurate of the time from Corgi. The attention to detail of having the rally number only on the 1 side is the kind of detail I like. As this is a replica of a corgi sold back in the day it's as accurate as you will get even down to corgi using an incorrect box and utilising a stick on label. CMC have done it again bravo guys and girls
10/10 👍

MY MONEY MY COMMENT

In Review of Mickey Ds comment in response to my comment, I should like to point out that as i payed out £34.99 for this model , i am entitled to write my feelings at the time of opening my model on arriving.
This does not mean that i am correct in thinking the model is wrong and that i know much about Rallying at that time. Its just my opinion and maybe i can see why it didnt sell so well. We are all entitled to our our opinions Mickey D. Please remember this before flying off the handle..

Correcting the bad press

I've not yet bought this model, but very well may do, to add to my Corgi Model Club 'shop' collection. But, to counter one reviewer's sour grapes review, over not having had his 'Batmobile' yet (which is a completely different issue, and NOT a review of this Mini Cooper model!) and another's 'disappointment' that the racing number 21 is NOT on both doors, so spoiling his mirror display cabinet - sir, Corgi Model Club replicate what Corgi Toys aka Mettoy Playcraft manufactured in their heyday in the 1960s. If they made it with only one number 21 racing roundel, CMC will make it like that again - otherwise it would NOT be a faithful replica, would it? More to the point, if the REAL Tony Fall and Mike Wood racing Mini Cooper S taking part in the 1966 Sun Rally only had one number 21 roundel on one door, and not one on each door, then historically, the model is accurate if it depicts just ONE number 21 racing roundel. And guess what - THAT'S WHAT IT HAD! Check out images of Mini Coopers on the 1966 Sun Rally.

A BIT DISAPPOINTING

As usual a very good delivery,, as usual.
Im a bit disappointed though that the model doesnt have the "21" on the drivers door, only on the passenger side, which doesnt look right in my mirror backed cabinet.
So not the best ive received..
