245 - Buick Riviera

£33.99

Introduced into the Corgi range in 1964, the Buick Riviera was produced in gold, metallic blue and pale blue. It was given Glidamatic suspension and Corgi’s innovative ‘Trans-O-Lite’ front and rear lights – which could be independently operated by placing your hand over either the front windscreen or rear window.

Unusually for a Corgi it came with a rear tow hook, which could be hitched to a separately available boat and trailer (Corgi 104). The model sold well on both sides of the Atlantic – over 800,000 were produced – and remained in production until 1968. The most sought after version today is the version with wire wheels – as opposed to cast spokes or plain spun hubs. The Riviera and boat combination was also available as Gift Set (No.13).

GOOD MODEL BUT

Very quick delivery, nice model, but i have to say somewhat not as good as some of my others from CMC.
Overall , feel to model seems a bit tinny, and im a bit disappointed that only the front transmatic lighting works and not the rear as advertised. Still a good looking model but not the best by a long way..

The Corgi Buick Riviera is beautiful, but...

The Buick Riviera is one of my favorite Corgi's. The color, paint and detail are very good. Love the trans-o-lite feature on Corgi models, and this one has both front and rear lights. On the reissue it is a bit of a disappointment for me though. First: the color of the headlights. Compared to the original that I also have, the color is colder, less yellowish. To me the old trans-o-lite was warmer and more realistic for that era, less modem 'xenon', if that makes sense. Strangely though, on the original Riviera, the yellowish lights were in fact brighter than the blueish new ones. Other than that: well done.
