Corgi’s first modelling of the iconic Beetle pulled out all the stops. Presented in deluxe packaging, complete with a plastic rhino charging the hapless rally car, the model went on to sell in numbers in excess of 760,000. Packed with features, it was given both an opening boot and bonnet, each lifting to reveal some impressive diecast detailing. Best of all, the model could be steered via a spare wheel mounted on the roof.

The look was completed by East African Rally stickers and decals. Launched in 1965, the model stayed in the Corgi range until 1968.Two years later, Corgi used the same casting for a police version (Corgi 492), which cleverly used the spare wheel’s hole in the roof for an emergency light.

Fantastic Features

This later model of Corgi is beautifully featured and even the diorama backdrop on the inside of the box makes for a perfect presentation of the vehicle on a shelf or bookcase,
The model’s steering works beautifully and the opening bonnet and boot make for a wonderfully featured model

Jet an ather great model with a fine box. Go on with these fine models. Love to see the man from uncle bleu and white. If you bring this one on de market i will buy this for sure.

The 256 is one of my most beloved Corgi of sixties. Great reissue for
affordable price.

I didn't have it in my childhood unfortunetly.
I had others Corgi like Daktari, farm tractors, James Bond, Batman..
My dream is a "uncle" model reissued.....
