266 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

£42.99

Undoubtedly one of the most famous Corgi Toys of the 60s-era, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was released in November 1968 to instant acclaim. Based on the flying car in the musical film of the same name, Corgi gave the model a host of now-iconic features that ensured maximum Christmas gift appeal. Chief among them are the model’s pop-out wings – operated via a ‘brake’ lever on the driver’s side – plus a wealth of gleaming chrome that replicated the movie car (created by Ken Adams, the famed James Bond set designer).

With four of the movie’s main characters modelled inside the car, additional snap-on wings to the front and rear, plus Corgi’s famed jewelled lights, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang stayed in the Corgi range until 1972. This Corgi Model Club edition replicates the original 60s model, notably reinstating the engine strap and detailed wheels that were missing on recent versions.

Chitty is a right old bang-banger

First, let me say that CMC have done their very best in trying to keep me happy with this model, though every replacement I've had so far has something wrong with it. Having some kind of defect (usually more than one) seems to be par for the course with this item. Wings not clicking in or not fully extending, front stabiliser having a stunted prong (on every model I've received so far), plastic silver area under side wings not being neatly trimmed, pattern on bonnet not being precisely placed, etc. It's the same with the 50th Anniversary model from the Corgi Shop. They need to do something to lift the overall quality of this model, and get that front stabiliser fixed, as it's clearly a fault with the mould. How can Corgi knowingly sell models that have a defective part? Unthinkable. However, they're not stinting about supplying replacements, but unfortunately the replacements are not any better. It always seems to be models with working parts that have a problem, so greater attention to detail over in China would help. It's fine as a display piece to be left in its box and glanced at across the room from time-to-time, but for those of us who want to eject the wings or scrutinise it in closer proximity, it's somewhat of a disappointment. If YOU have this model, check out its front stabiliser.

Hello,

We're truly sorry to hear about your disappointment with your order.

I know we’ve been in recent contact regarding this issue, and I hope the resolution met your expectations!

Kind regards,

Fantastic model - a dream come true!

The first edition was prohibitively expensive for me, and even today it's not easy to get an affordable example in mint condition.
This new model is made with so much attention to detail, a big thank you to the Corgi Model Club!

Great model

It arrived very late, had correspondence with enquiries who were very helpful, offered to send a replacement, but fortunately the original arrived just in time to stop the replacement being sent. Never owned the original back in the sixties so glad to have the opportunity of owning this one. Keep up the good work Corgi !
