The Citroen DS19 was first tooled by Corgi at the beginning of 1957 (as Corgi 210) and is notable for being the first ever non-British car in the Corgi range. It was updated in 1960, as Corgi 210S, given a moulded interior, a steering wheel and ‘Glidamatic’ suspension.

Five years later it was revived yet again, this time in a topical Monte Carlo livery. Available on its own or as part of the ‘GS 38’ gift set – together with a Mini Cooper and a Rover 2000 – it was produced for just one year, from 1965 to 1966. The Monte Carlo Rally version was given a pale blue body and a white roof, whereas the earlier Corgi 210S, which had identical tooling, came in red. Both featured the same yellow interior.

Great reissue of an old favourite

My first purchase from the Club and, going by this experience, there will be more. Very prompt delivery and very reasonable postage cost combined with excellent packaging and helpful communication made the buying experience a pleasure. And the model is a little beauty. Perhaps the paint finish is somewhat more accurate than I remember from my original but that is a tiny point. This is a lovely recreation of a scarce Corgi and I am delighted to have it. Hopefully, its two companions in the original Monte Gift set might appear as club reissues in due course. It would be lovely to see one of the sibling Safari estates too. And how about a replica of the lovely No 232 Fiat 2100? Overall, the Corgi Model Club is playing a blinder. Well done, folks, keep 'em coming!
