258 - The "Saint's" Car Volvo P1800 Second Edition Paramount Pictures License

£33.99

Second Edition 258 - The "Saint's Car Volvo P1800 is now under license with Paramount Pictures.  This new model will have the fully licensed Saint logo on the bonnet with a non-discoloured background rather than on the cream coloured background. This new re-issue of this model will also have the Paramount licensing line on the packaging.

Renowned for being Corgi’s first licensed product, this popular model was created to tie in with the ‘Saint’ TV show featuring future James Bond, Roger Moore. The P.1800 model had been first issued by Corgi in 1961, as number 228. Originally available in either red, beige or salmon pink, it was deleted in 1965 to make way for this new version.

With white paintwork to match the car seen on TV, a detailed red interior, the iconic ‘Saint’ logo on the bonnet and a miniature Simon Templar at the wheel – the character Roger Moore played in the show – it was an instant success. Nearly 1,160,000 were sold before it was deleted from the range in 1970. Later versions differed with a red ‘Saint’ bonnet sticker.

Poorly detailed to say the least

I would put this model top of my 'to buy' list if it wasn't so crudely and inaccurately reproduced.
The steering wheel is angled way too high, with the blob of a driver (obviously not Roger Moore) peering through the raised steering wheel. The silver radiator is missing it's outer trim, as are the door window trim and handle, with the remaining Chrome items looking like dull silver paint. The bumper spot lights are completely missing and the indicators are body colored with no hint of amber. As for the chrome body line strip, it curves up into the door rather than flow into the rear wings and lights. The wheel hubs are not perforated as in the TV series and the windscreen not high enough, leaving an inelegant lump of roof on show.
I am quite frankly surprised that this was shamefully licensed by Paramount, with so much that fails to represent 'The Saint's' P100 S. If I were a Corgi executive I would stop selling this model until a re-design was done rectifying all the above faults. Is it possible to claim that this authentically represents the actual car? It is a playground toy that may ape the original model but offers little in worth to a serious collector, unlike other high profile Hollywood models in the Corgi range.

Very nice, but a little noisy

Looks very nice, but since the interior and windows are not attached, the model makes a rattling sound.

Love it, took me straight back to my childhood. Used to play with it all the time, especially when The Saint was on TV!
