211S - Studebaker Golden Hawk

Only the second non-British car to be modelled by Corgi, the Studebaker Golden Hawk was introduced into the range in 1958 – just two years after the very first die-cast Corgi Toys were produced. It was initially available in two guises – as Corgi 211 (in blue with gold fin detailing), or as the quirky mechanised Corgi 211M (in white, again with gold on the fins).

The latter was deleted after just one year – the result of disappointing sales – whilst production of 211 ended in 1960 when it was superceded by Corgi 211S. The new ‘S’ prefix denoted the addition of spring suspension. It was also given a detailed red interior. Most came in a ‘vacuum- plated’ gold or silver finish, with a much smaller number in a simpler ‘plain’ gold – now highly sought after.

A beautiful Finish

Wow what a finish on this model. Although a standard Corgi model without any extra features it still rates as one of my fav cars. Corgi managed to capture American cars so much better than the competition, with superb finishes, suspension and of course windows. It was so nice to be able to purchase this model new again as I only have a restored version in my collection. I was amazed at the sheen on the paintwork and the solid feel of the model which runs very smoothly. Other colours would be appreciated. The collection continues to grow and each model is eagerly awaited. Quality of the models continues. Well done Corgi.

Great reissue of a golden classic

Even as a reissue this golden gem is a top piece among my other Studebakers. More often than not Corgi showed the competition how to do it properly!! Those were the days !!
